Awards achieved

This page allows you to share with me just some of the bears who have      been lucky enough to win awards.

Most of them live with me as I am so proud of them I cannot bare to part with them. Most are from designs I still work with and although these bears are generally one of a kind a cousin is always a possibililty.

Bear of the Show

National Teddy Bear Festival, Christchurch, November 2002

I could not let the year go by with out making a bear in honour of the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Teddy Bear.

I wanted a bear in a traditional design but with a modern twist. After many hours of research Century was born.

He is very traditional in shape but has alot of hand shading on his face paws and feet and has pellets in is tummy. He is 18" standing and is a very heavy fellow.

Century wears a 1902 around his neck to help symbolize the bringing together of old and new.

Mini Bear Professional

National Teddy Bear Festival, Hamilton, October 2000

The first of my realistic open mouth mini bears.

This bear is fully jointed and has a double neck joint. He is made in Alpaca and is 2" to the shoulder and 4" long

Best Designer Bear

Mid Winter Xmas Show, Auckland , July 2000

An experimental Bear. Shilo was the second open mouth bear I had made. The first with teeth.

Shilo also has tropunto paw pads and extra joints is his wrist.

Shilo

Taffy

Bear of the show

and Judges choice

New Zealand National Festival, Hamilton, September, 1999

Taffy was very experimental when I made him.

He has tropunto paw pads and is multi jointed, none of which I had tried before.

A double neck joint and joints in his wrist add to his poseability.

Taffy was produced in a limited edition of 5 which has now sold out.

Grandma

2nd - 13" and over original design

National Festival , Hamilton, September, 1999

Grandma finished 2nd behind Taffy in this competition. She now lives in Auckland

Felicity

1st - 6" to 13" Original Design

National Festival, Hamilton, September, 1999

Felicity won her section and was up against Taffy for Bear of the Show.

She now lives in Wellington

Little Sailor

2nd - Designer Mini Bear

National Festival, Hamilton September, 1999

This little guy is one of the few mini bears I make. I entered him to obtain constructive critism on him and was totally amazed to take out 2nd place

Stanley

Best Designer Bear

Midwinter Show, Auckland, July, 1999

Stanley is one of the few award winning bears that I have sold and is now living happily with his new Mum in the USA

Blue

Best Original Design

National Festival 1997

Blue will always be one of my favorite bears. He was made in a limited edition of five which is now sold out. There are Blue's living all around the world.

Shadow

2nd - Original design

National Festival 1997

Shadow was unlucky to place second as he was only one point behind Blue in this competition

Yoyo

3rd - Original Design and

Judges Choice

National Festival 1997

Yo Yo placed 3rd and also received the Judges choice award. He proved to be so popular that I released his design as a pattern and Kitset which is still available.

Esmeralda

Best Original Design

Midwinter Show, Auckland, July 1997

Although I had not sold any bears at this stage I entered Esmeralda in the professional section as a trial to see how I got on against the countries best. To my amazement she won, setting the path for my venture into the bear making business.

Billy

2nd Novice Original design

National Festival 1996

Billy is the reason I am still making bears today. It was a total shock to be placed second as he was my first ever mohair bear and the first original design. In 1998 I decided to make a limited edition of 5 Billy's which has sold out.
